Father Peter J. Garry was born in New York City and raised on Long Island. He is the oldest of five children. After graduating Chaminade High School in Mineola, Father Peter attended Fairfield University in Connecticut.
In 1968 Father Peter was ordained as a priest and was initially assigned to The Most Holy Trinity Church in East Hampton. Throughout Father Peter’s distinguished career, he served at St. Philip Neri in Northport, St. Anne’s Parish in Brentwood, St. Martin of Tours in Amityville, Our Lady of Grace in West Babylon, St. John’s in Riverhead, and St. William the Abbot in Seaford. In addition to his role as parish priest, he has also served at Southampton College as a part-time chaplain, on the board of Catholic Charities, and presently is a member of the board of Little Flower in Wading River. For the past six years, Father Peter’s served as the Pastor of St. Patrick’s Church in Southold.
Due to his own experiences as a student in primary, secondary, and collegiate Catholic schools, Father Peter values and cherishes Catholic education. As a result, he continues to be a strong supporter and champion of Catholic education. During his time at St. Patrick’s Church in Southold, Father Peter continues this legacy by ministering to the staff and students of Our Lady of Mercy Regional School. He conducts masses, attends events and parades, supports fundraisers, and provides counsel to the Board. A deep believer in the mission of Catholic education, he embraces the scholarship, service, and dedication of the Our Lady Mercy Regional School’s students and community. He believes these schools play an integral part in the present and future of the Catholic Church.
An avid lifetime golfer (lefty!), Father Peter enjoys spending time with his family in Florida.
